Dyson Link updates

After the Dyson App was created, rolling updates to it were needed. These varied from minor updates to help with connectivity, to adding extra severities of air quality and to new products such as the new Hot & Cool Purifier and new Robot Vacuum cleaner.

EC update

One of the first things to be updated after the release of 4.0 was to add to more severities to the Purifier. These had been thought about when originally redesigning the Purifier screens but it was decided higher up to try and simply with fewer outcomes. However this thinking changed due to feedback from markets such as China and India where the app was constantly showing the outdoors and sometimes indoors to be Red (Very Poor).

The 2 new levels of severity are ‘Extremely Poor’ and ‘Severe’ and after being released got great feedback from users in those requested markets as it allowed them to get a greater sense of how bad the air outside is - something that is starting to become more and more known and concerning in the wider world.

Designs were already done for a heater and a Purifier for 4.0. The problem to solve was how to combine those data points when individually they already took up the whole screen.

Alongside designing a tangible solution this was also a great time to improve on the learnings and feedback that was received for the other EC products.

I wasn’t happy with the accessibility we had done for the app launch. Despite being ‘accessible’ I believed we could do better and pushed for the copy sizes, colour and, voice overs to be redefined. These changes were also then done for the older ECs too.

The new Vacuum, project 276, aka the Dyson 360 Heurist was a chance to push what could be done via the app and expand more than what we did originally with the first robot.

I was leading the work on the Dyson Lightcycle when I took over this project. Bits had been started, such as the homescreen, but the Restrictions and Mapping still were to be done as well as finishing and finessing what had already been started.

FUTURE APP

This has no affiliation to Dyson and was done by me in my own time.

Below is where I could see the app going in the future, as more products are released, a greater alignment between them could help give the app a better definition and identity. I also believe it makes the app stay modern as already issues were arising with how much was needed on the homescreen with little space available.
